What is the AutoCAD Mechanical Design Course at STI?
The AutoCAD Mechanical Design Course at Skill Training Institute (STI), Alpha-1, Greater Noida is a 2-month, 16-module, 60+ hour hands-on program teaching precision 2D drafting, dimensioning, GD&T basics, sectional/orthographic views and assembly drawings with BOM. Learners finish having drafted real mechanical parts and a complete, print-ready assembly drawing package, backed by weekly assessments and 100% Placement Assist.
Who this course is for
Built for diploma/degree engineering students, ITI candidates and working professionals who want dedicated, focused training on AutoCAD for mechanical drafting — no prior CAD experience required.
By the end you'll draft accurate 2D part drawings, apply correct dimensioning and GD&T basics, build sectional and orthographic views, and produce complete, print-ready assembly drawings with BOM the way a design office expects.

Phase 1AutoCAD Fundamentals & Precision DraftingModules 01–05The AutoCAD interface, drawing setup, and precise 2D drafting of mechanical parts+
01Introduction to AutoCAD & the Interface+
Getting comfortable with the AutoCAD workspace — ribbon, command line and workflow you'll use in every module.
02Drawing Setup: Units, Layers & Templates+
Setting up drawing units, organizing work with layers, and starting from proper drawing templates.
03Basic Draw & Modify Commands+
Core drawing tools (line, circle, arc, polyline) and modify commands (trim, offset, fillet, array) used in every drawing.
04Precision Drawing: Object Snaps & Coordinate Systems+
Drafting to exact size with object snaps, polar tracking and absolute/relative coordinate entry.
05Creating 2D Views of Simple Mechanical Parts+
Drafting front, top and side views of simple machine parts from a reference sketch or object.
Phase 2Dimensioning, GD&T & DetailingModules 06–11Dimensioning standards, GD&T basics, sectional views and detailing machine components+
06Dimensioning Standards & Practices+
Linear, angular, radial and ordinate dimensioning applied the way a design office actually expects.
07Annotative Text, Styles & Tables+
Text styles, leaders, notes and tables that keep a drawing readable and consistent at any scale.
08GD&T Basics: Symbols & Application+
Reading and applying common GD&T symbols — flatness, straightness, concentricity and tolerance frames.
09Sectional Views & Hatching+
Full, half and offset sections with correct hatching to reveal internal part geometry.
10Detailing Machine Components (Shafts, Bolts, Bearings)+
Producing fully detailed manufacturing drawings of common machine elements.
11Blocks, Attributes & Symbol Libraries+
Building reusable blocks with attributes for fasteners, surface finish symbols and standard parts.
Phase 3Assemblies, Layouts & PublishingModules 12–16Assembly drawings, BOM, layouts/viewports and plotting a complete drawing sheet set+
12Orthographic Projections of Assemblies+
Building multi-part orthographic views that show how components fit and function together.
13Assembly Drawings & Bill of Materials (BOM)+
Creating assembly drawings with balloon call-outs and a linked, accurate bill of materials.
14Working with Layouts, Viewports & Title Blocks+
Setting up paper space layouts, scaled viewports and a professional, reusable title block.
15Plotting, Printing & Sheet Set Management+
Configuring plot styles and page setups, and managing a multi-sheet drawing set for output.
16Capstone: Complete Assembly Drawing Set with BOM & Detailing+
Producing a full, print-ready assembly drawing package — detail sheets, sections, BOM and title block.
312 tools & platforms you'll use
Everything is taught on real, industry-standard AutoCAD tools you'll use later on the job — not simulations. Swipe or use the arrows to browse every category.
Setting up the drawing and drafting parts with exact precision.
Annotating and detailing parts the way a design office expects.
Turning individual parts into a complete, print-ready drawing set.
4How each module is taught
Every module follows the same practical, real-drawing lens, so you always know what to expect in class.
Concept Walkthrough
Trainer explains the concept with a real mechanical part or drawing scenario first, then the command or standard.
Live Along
You build the same drawing, dimension set or detail step by step, right alongside the trainer.
Hands-on Exercise
An independent task applying the concept to a new part or drawing problem.
Doubt Clearing
One-on-one help for anyone stuck, before the class moves to the next module.
Weekly Assessment
A short practical AutoCAD test every week so gaps are caught early, not at the end.
5Projects & portfolio
Four practical, portfolio-ready drawing projects across the full syllabus — the kind of work you'll show in interviews.
- Project 1. 2D drawing set of a simple machine part with full dimensioning
- Project 2. Detailed component drawing applying GD&T symbols and tolerances
- Project 3. Sectional and orthographic views of a multi-part mechanical assembly
- Project 4. Capstone: complete assembly drawing package with BOM, title block, and print-ready sheet set
6Assessment & certification
Weekly practical assessments covering drafting commands, dimensioning and detailing, with instructor review and feedback.
Final practical exam across all three phases, plus the capstone project used as your demonstrable, portfolio-ready proof of skill.
Certificate of completion, plus resume and drawing portfolio support through our 100% Placement Assist program.
7Quick answers
Do I need any prior drawing or engineering background?
No. Basic familiarity with mechanical shapes is helpful but not required — every drafting concept, from lines to GD&T, is taught from the ground up.
Do I need my own laptop with AutoCAD installed?
A laptop with AutoCAD is strongly recommended since you'll be practicing daily and building a portfolio, but institute computers with AutoCAD are also available in class.
Will I actually draft real parts, or is it mostly theory?
You'll draft real components from week one. Every module includes hands-on practice on real or realistic mechanical parts, ending in a full assembly capstone.
Is GD&T covered in depth in this course?
This course covers GD&T basics — common symbols and how to apply them on a drawing. In-depth GD&T interpretation is covered in our advanced mechanical design tracks.
Are classes online, offline, or both?
Both. Offline batches run at our Alpha-1, Greater Noida campus; online live batches follow the same curriculum with the same trainers. Morning, evening and weekend timings are available.
What can I do after completing this course?
You'll be ready for CAD draftsman, design trainee and junior mechanical designer roles, with a drawing portfolio of real projects, and can progress into advanced mechanical design or 3D CAD tracks with the same placement support.
Is this the same as AutoCAD Electrical or AutoCAD Civil training?
No. This course is focused specifically on mechanical drafting — 2D mechanical parts, GD&T and assembly drawings. AutoCAD Electrical and Civil use different symbol sets and drawing conventions and are covered in separate, dedicated tracks.
